April Art Walk with Temple Bar Gallery + Studios

Art Walk is a free guided tour introducing contemporary art in Temple Bar. Enjoy an afternoon of art in the city starting at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios with an introduction to the exhibition Gather by Niamh O’Malley, part of the Irish Tour of Ireland at Venice. Continue on for a visit to Black Church Print Studio to see how Niamh O’Malley’s Artist’s Edition print Flag was made. Awarding the Everyday celebrates the small, day-to-day achievements in children’s lives that can often go overlooked or undervalued. The project aims to promote the strengths, skills and pride of children and their community.

Awarding the Everyday is a collaboration between Fatima Homework Club and NCAD student Emma Brennan, made possible through NCAD’s Dublin 8 Neighbourhood Residency, and presented in the NCAD Gallery as part of the Dublin City Learning Festival 2023.

Emma Brennan is a student in the BA Fine Art Print at NCAD whose practice is concerned with examining stereotypes and assumed social roles, particularly in the context of motherhood, Irishness, and the female experience. Since Autumn 2022 she has been working collaboratively with the staff and children of Fatima Homework Club which has seen her practice develop to include collaborative processes and engage with themes of place, community and celebration. Dublin 8.

The Dublin 8 Neighbourhood Residency is a programme of NCAD’s Studio+ year, which sees students immersed off campus in the Dublin 8 area, working with local partners to engage in community-based collaborative arts processes.

NCAD’s Access Programme collaborates with schools and community partners in delivering a range of innovative programmes that seek to provide experiential art and design opportunities for engagement with NCAD, promoting awareness of and pathways to higher education in art and design.

Join our combined Visual Thinking Strategies tour and art-making workshop for Dublin Learning City Festival 2023. Artist Ashleigh Downey will guide participants on a tour of selected artworks and facilitate discussion using the Visual Thinking Strategies method – a method that encourages participants to think speculatively and to respond to an image from their point of view, offering evidence for their ideas grounded in their observations. Performance and Reading by Cecilia Bullo as part of her solo exhibition ‘Being Haunted by the Breezes, Now How Will You Exist?’ on view at the RHA 6 – 7pm

Join artist Cecilia Bullo and a number of performers and musicians for a special performance and reading as part of her exhibition ‘Being Haunted by the Breezes, Now How Will You Exist?’ on view in the Gallagher Gallery, RHA.

This performance will consist of an augmented and enhanced version of the soundtrack currently part of Cecilia Bullo’s exhibition, Being Haunted by the breezes, now how will you exist?.

This unique performance accompanied by a live presentation of Primevil-Mother will be executed with instruments and a vocal delivery within the gallery space.

Primevil-Mother is a soundtrack envisaged by Cecilia Bullo and developed with the assistance of Assyriologist expert Prof. Martin Worthington (TCD,  constructed and produced together with PROJECT collective consisting of Paranoid Visions founder P.A and legendary musical terrorist Stano.

For this live performance ritualistic spoken words in ancient Sumerian will be performed by the artist. On this occasion for this performance they are joined by Kaz from hotly tipped post punk/pre grunge duo Vulpynes on drums.

Tour – National Folklore Collection at University College

 The National Folklore Collection at University College Dublin is one of the largest collections of oral and ethnological material in the world. The audio and film recordings, manuscripts and rare printed materials held in the Collection span many aspects of human endeavour, from material culture to oral literature, language and artistic expression. Much of this material was amassed by predecessors to the NFC, including the Irish Folklore Commission (1935-1970, whose collections have been inscribed in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register) and the Department of Irish Folklore, UCD (1970-2005).
