Learning Neighbourhoods

A Learning Neighbourhood is an area that has an ongoing commitment to learning, providing inclusive and diverse learning opportunities for whole communities through partnership and collaboration. Learning Neighbourhoods aim to benefit residents by adopting the Learning City concept, as defined by UNESCO and applying it at a neighbourhood level.

Dublin Learning City is excited to announce that we will be developing Learning Neighbourhoods in collaboration with North Inner City Adult and Community Education Forum (North Dublin) and Liberties Education Network (South Dublin).

Both networks are City of Dublin Education and Training Board sponsored and supported initiatives. Each are representative of a broad range of services and projects, in particular those who are engaged in the provision of adult and community education. Members of the Forum provide education, training and development opportunities for learners in a range of areas such as adult and community education, personal and social development, literacy and numeracy, participation in Community Employment (CE) schemes and Local Training Initiatives (LTIs). Programmes and courses provided comprise both non-accredited and accredited provision. Courses range from basic reading, writing, maths and English language to pre apprenticeship maths programmes and academic writing workshops to prepare for college. Non-accredited courses include – crafts such as sewing, weaving and art, local history projects, climate justice programmes, and gardening.

The development of our first collaborative pilot Learning Neighbourhood will begin in the coming months. For updates on our progress, keep an eye on our website and social media platforms.
