Masamba Samba School
Masamba Samba School is a community music collective, dedicated to the promotion of Afro-Brazilian Culture, and using it as a tool to tackle social disadvantage and injustice. The organisation was formed in 1994, initially as a team-building activity in the now-defunct City Arts Centre. Masamba quickly evolved into a busy community band, that is in demand for both performances and workshop services.
We deliver over 400 music and dance workshops each year, primarily in the greater Dublin area, and will usually perform at least 30 times a year. Notable performances include several award winning entries to the St. Patrick’s Festival Parade in Dublin, the opening of the Special Olympics World Games in Croke Park in 2003, Dublin Pride Parade, the Lord Mayor’s Parade in Belfast, and indoor shows in most of Ireland premier live music venues.
Masamba Samba School has been proud to represent Dublin at many international events, including festivals in Berlin, Cardiff, London, Luton, and Toulouse as well as tours to Mexico, Chicago and of course Brazil. Wherever we play, we fly the flag for Dublin.
